Paper Weaving Workshop with Weaver and Textile Artist, Jane Stephens

10am-1pm Saturday 22 November, Falmouth Art Gallery

Join weaver and textile artist, Jane Stephens, for a creative hands-on workshop where you will be invited to weave a small wall hanging.

Based on Jane's artwork currently on display in the gallery as part of the Out of Paper exhibition, you will use words from a story, a poem, a letter, or just some words that you have written yourself, and be taught by Jane to use a small frame loom to weave using paper yarn and paper strips.

Jane says:
I will bring some words, quotes and stories with me, written on various types of paper for you to incorporate into weaves if you are not sure about writing something yourself. There will be time in the workshop to do some writing for yourself if you would like to. 

If you want to bring words or a story with you then the size of the paper and the words on it will should be A4. You can use any kind of paper although a slightly stiffer paper is easier to work with. The words should cover as much of the paper as you can and can be printed or handwritten. 

We will be cutting or tearing the words into strips, to weave into a paper warp, which will result in a piece of artwork that can be framed or hung as a wall hanging.

From weaving this piece, you will also go away with the skills to continue weaving, either in paper or other yarns, and will be able to create handwoven pieces for you to use in your home.
