Grace Gardner Collection

Gifts inspired by Grace Gardner's dynamic grid paintings. Grace explained that ‘the idea for the grid paintings came about when I was in bed with a cold. I sketched the quilt patterns as they were distorted – bunched up over my knees.’ Grace spent much of her life living and painting in Flushing, Nr Falmouth. Falmouth Art Gallery cares for over 30 works by Grace.

The Nerys Johnson Collection

Gifts inspired by Nerys Johnson's Maroon Tulip with apricot hyacinth and blue clematis. The art critic Julian Spalding refers to her work being “more like miniature stained glass windows than paintings. Their power comes from the forging of opposites: delicate, glowing petals and leaves are chained in darkness”. This was the last painting by Nerys Johnson before her death in 2001.

John William Waterhouse Collection

John William Waterhouse RA was known for embracing the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood's style and subject matter. His paintings are known for their depictions of women from both ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend. The Lady of Shalott is known throughout the world and is Falmouth Art Gallery's most famous work. Based on Lord Tennyson's poem, it illustrates the moment when the Lady of Shalott sees Sir Lancelot in the crystal mirror and breaks her vow never to look out of her window and down upon Camelot.
